Sew Many Options: Choosing a Needle and Thread for Your Project

Sunday, April 3rd, 1-3 pm

What’s the difference between a Sharp and Between? And aren’t Ballpoints used for writing?!

Needles and threads are chosen for their use, stress, and appropriateness to the task at hand, whether that be dressmaking, embroidery, or something else.

Learn the general rules about hand and machine sewing needles, which one to use when, and helpful tips and fun facts about needle styles and techniques. You’ll also decipher basic thread terminology, and learn where, when, and why to choose a certain type of thread over another.

Included Class Materials:
Thread sampler sheet with the types of thread we’ll be talking about
Needles & photo sheet with notes on various needles and their applications
Class notes

About the Instructor:

Megan Arteaga of Megan Sews
Megan is the self-styled “seamstress next door,” and sewing and crafting is in her DNA! She learned from the best (machine work from Mom and hand-stitching from Dad), and after college really started taking a higher-end approach to sewing and mending, with a focus on sustainability. She started Megan Sews a few years ago and is thriving by word-of-mouth in her neighborhood. Her day job as a Youth Minister means she’s honed her teaching skills on some tough audiences, and is always ready to share a “fun fact” or three with anyone who will listen. If she’s not at her sewing machine or at the church, you can probably find her dancing hula, out on a run, or in the garden.
