Join us, as we spend the weekend exploring the 18th century Mantua-makers process of “cutting out”, “making -up” and “fitting.” This gown making is almost always a collaborative effort between maker and customer, so we will pair up to do the cutting and fitting. One person will be the mantua-maker while the other will experience the gown from the perspective of the customer.
18th century sewing and short cuts will be shared, but since the focus of the weekend is in the cutting and fitting, some machine sewing is possible.
Note: there will probably be sewing “homework” on Saturday night, so you are encouraged to keep your evening free from other commitments.
Stays (corset) are necessary, shift and under-petticoat are encouraged, and pocket hoops are optional. Other supplies needed will be emailed to you after you register.
This is a rare opportunity to learn from a Master Seamstress with over 25 years experience in studying and making historical dresses. Sign up now before we sell out!
